Thanksgiving has become a time to enjoy family, food, and football. But it can be much more powerful when you operate with the original intention of the holiday: giving thanks and helping others.
Here are five highly impactful ways to practice generous leadership this week and throughout the holiday season.
1. Share Gratitude with Others
- Thank people directly—look them in the eyes, or send a heartfelt note or email.
- Greet strangers with a smile and a hello.
Giving gratitude feels like giving a gift to yourself while also giving one to someone else.
2. Give Back
- Spend time serving others—at a shelter, a food bank, or within your community.
- Support families within your company who may be in need.
Lifting up your organization reinforces your role as a leader.
3. Practice Positive Mindfulness
- Take a moment each morning or night to reflect on your wins and blessings.
- Help others do the same during meetings and planning.
Starting meetings by sharing a “win” helps shift attention toward progress and possibility.
4. Connect with Nature
- Go for a hike and disconnect.
- As landscapers, reconnecting with the outdoors can help refuel your energy.
Leaders should get out of the office and connect with employees, clients, and job sites.
5. Be a Generous Leader
- Invite someone who might otherwise spend the holiday alone.
- Support a nonprofit you care about.
- Donate personally and through your business to show commitment to your community.
Your Challenge: Remain Generous in This Busy Time
“To those that have much, much is expected.”
The most important leadership trait is generosity. Truly successful people are consistently generous with their time, words, and willingness to help. It is one of the most admirable qualities.
May you continue to succeed in everything you pursue.
Wishing you a joyful holiday week, from our family to yours!
