How Smart Landscape Companies Are Actually Using AI

As a consulting firm helping more than 120 landscape firms, we see AI moving well beyond basic writing and research.

(See below for 9 use cases.)

The most forward-thinking companies use AI not just to save time, but to think, coach, communicate, and execute faster and better.

That is why we are featuring an AI panel at our Summer Growth Summit. In preparing for it, I asked several panelists how they are actually using AI in their businesses.

Their answers…

Doug Taylor, owner Frontiers Design Build, is using AI as a kind of digital chief of staff.

Thought Partner

He is using AI to act as a high-level partner for strategic planning. He feeds it context on quarterly goals, then asks it to challenge his assumptions, expose blind spots, and stress-test his plan against risks or market shifts.

(For a useful model, google “The CRIT Framework.”)

Better Processes

Doug is also using AI to improve internal communication. He has it review drafts of internal messages and policy changes for tone, clarity, and empathy. He is also using it to strengthen internal role documents and position agreements so employee expectations are better aligned.

Marketing Support

On the growth side, he is using AI to help think through sales strategy and messaging as his company expands into multi-unit residential work.

For example, when working on a 30-page written proposal for a city housing project, he uses AI as an editor, copywriter, and thought partner to improve the final submission.

Rob Murray, co-founder of Intrigue Media, shared a sales use case that will make your sales manager smile.

Sales Coach

You can build an AI sales coach by feeding it your sales checklist, required discovery questions, and next-step expectations. Then record a salesperson’s site visit, create a transcript, and have AI score whether they followed the process well. That gives sales leaders a coaching tool that is practical, objective, and scalable.

Ted Lucia, owner, Lucia Landscaping, is applying AI in several operational areas.

Hiring Support

His team is using AI to evaluate candidates by comparing the job description, resume, assessments, and interview feedback against the role and company culture. They are fast growing, so they do this frequently.

  • Putting together weekly A/R collection emails based on how many days an invoice is past due
  • Feeding AI their estimating knowledge base to support faster, smarter estimating

Alex Feldman, COO of Granum (LMN, Greenius and SingleOps), is using AI at an enterprise level.

Company Brain

His team uses software called Glean to connect internal documentation, training materials, and company knowledge so employees can get answers faster and onboard more effectively. Time to value for new employees has seen a significant improvement.

Most firms do not need enterprise software. A well-built custom GPT loaded with your SOPs, training documents, templates, and contracts can create a similar advantage.

Deep Analysis

He also uses Claude for heavy analysis, from finances to client interactions, dramatically reducing the time it takes to get answers and solve problems.

When he speaks on the panel, he will talk about the future of operating software in the era of AI and how LMN is planning to gain synergy for its users.

Your Challenge

Use AI as a force multiplier in your landscape business—not because it replaces people, but because it helps good people make better decisions and move faster.

For example, a $4M client of ours just hired an AI intern whose sole focus is to help enable AI across their company.

Anyone can implement this. Let’s go.

At our Summer Growth Summit, these expert speakers will go deeper on the tools, prompts, and use cases for AI.
